Frequently asked questions
Straight answers. If yours isn't here, email Info@IronKeyHomeVault.com.
IronKey HomeVault is an iPhone (iOS) app. There is no cloud, no account, and no web version — everything lives on your device.
How do I add my belongings?Photograph each item — up to 5 photos plus an optional receipt photo — then add the details that matter: name, category, room, value, serial number, and, for valuables, a full appraisal block (appraised value, date, appraiser, certificate/GIA #) and notes. Items auto-group into Collections by category (Art, Electronics, Clothing, Books, Decor, Musical Instruments, Collectibles).
Can I unlock with Face ID or Touch ID?Yes. You can turn on Face ID / Touch ID to unlock the app and the add-on vaults, backed by your passcode. Your passcode remains the only key to your encryption.
Where is my data stored?Only on your phone, encrypted with a random 256-bit key that your passcode unlocks. No account, no cloud, no server. We never see your data — there is nothing on our end to leak, subpoena, or hack.
What happens if I forget my passcode?Your data cannot be recovered — by design. There is no reset and no backdoor. Choose a passcode you'll remember and keep an encrypted backup with Export.
What if my phone is destroyed in the same fire as my house? That's exactly what the encrypted backup is for: export a passphrase-locked .hvault file and keep it anywhere you choose — a computer, a drive, an email to yourself. Import it on a new phone and your whole vault is back.
What are the add-on vaults?Optional modules behind Face ID / passcode — the Jewelry Vault (tracks appraisals and warns when a piece exceeds a typical $2,500 theft sub-limit so you can add a rider), the Weapon Vault™ (firearm records), and the Safe Combination Vault (codes shown for 10 seconds then re-hidden, always masked, and never included in any report, export, or backup). For firearms and jewelry, an "is it stored in a safe?" toggle is available.
Can I send a report straight to my insurance company?Yes. Open Emergency Reports, choose a Police Report or Insurance Claim, pick the scope (whole home or by room), select which items, and optionally include a photo of each item. Each report prints the property name and address at the top. Preview the PDF and share it from your own apps.
How much does it cost?Free for 7 days, then $4.99/month — one plan, everything included. See pricing.
Can I document more than one home?Yes. Each home or property is a fully separate vault — its own items, add-on vaults, safe combinations, and documents — with its own address that prints on that home's reports. Switch homes on the home screen; add or manage them in Settings.
What about a house fire or a lost phone?Use encrypted backup: export a passphrase-locked .hvault file and move it device to device. No passphrase means the file is unreadable — there is no recovery, by design. Keep a copy somewhere safe.
