Which phones can 3D-scan with LiDAR?

iPhone Pro and Pro Max models from the iPhone 12 Pro onward, and LiDAR-equipped iPad Pros. On these devices rooms and furniture are mapped automatically.

My phone doesn't have LiDAR — what do I get?

The Camera + AR scan: a guided augmented-reality mode that works on any modern iPhone or Android (ARCore). Sweep the room, tap the corners, and the app builds your floor plan from camera motion. Items are added with camera recognition. You can also draw your plan in the web Home Builder.

Does the app choose the mode for me?

Yes. HomeVault detects your phone model and offers LiDAR when available, Camera + AR otherwise. You can switch modes anytime in Settings.

Are AR measurements good enough for insurance?

AR dimensions are good estimates and are clearly flagged as estimates in reports. What insurers care most about — photos, serial numbers, receipts, and values — is identical in every mode.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your phone, encrypted with a random 256-bit key that your passcode unlocks. No account, no cloud, no server. We never see your data — there is nothing on our end to leak, subpoena, or hack.

What happens if I forget my passcode?

Your data cannot be recovered — by design. There is no reset and no backdoor. Choose a passcode you'll remember and keep an encrypted backup with Export.

What if my phone is destroyed in the same fire as my house?

That's exactly what the encrypted backup is for: export a passphrase-locked .hvault file and keep it anywhere you choose — a computer, a drive, an email to yourself. Import it on a new phone and your whole vault is back.

What are the add-on vaults?

Optional modules you enable in Settings — Jewelry, Firearms, and Safe Combinations. Each opens behind its own second Face ID and is excluded from all reports and exports unless you explicitly include it.

Can I send a report straight to my insurance company?

Yes. Store your insurer, policy number, and agent's email once in Report Profiles; claim packages are pre-addressed and ready to send from your own email.

Is there a family or multi-home option?

You can document multiple properties (home, cabin, rental) in one vault, each with its own floor plan. Records can be shared between family members' phones with passphrase-encrypted export/import.
